The EuroGravel® gravel grids can withstand very high loads and are therefore ideal for surfaces subjected to such high loads like driveways and car parks. A properly installed and stable foundation is very important in this regard. Maximum permissible load (TNO tested). Empty grid: > 340 tons per square metre! Filled grid: > 11,811 tons per square metre!
Installing the grids is easy and quick, this is how it is done. Start by making a foundation layer. For decorative use (without loads to carry), a sub base of compacted sand or gravel can be sufficient (according to wish). For heavier use cars, trucks, etc. , a foundation layer of mixed granulate or any other sub base material is required. The foundation layer should be 25cm thick for medium loads, for heavy loads a layer of 40cm is recommended. It is recommended to finish the foundation layer with a levelling layer (3-5 cm), in order to obtain a smooth surface. Use a compacted fine gravel in sizes between 0/4 mm. A use of edging is important to make sure the surface is bordered on all sides and the gravel will be totally secured in the grids. Now you can install the grids on the levelling layer, in stretcher bond.
There is no connection system needed, as the grids can be placed directly on the sub layer one by one. The geotextile overlaps around the edges. Always leave a small space of about 1-2 cm between the edging and the grids to prevent possible damage from differences in temperature. Bigger car parking lots and parks: Use sufficient extension joints to compensate for temperature differences. This is the easiest part, the pebbles or chippings can simply be spread out in the grids.
The required thickness is 5-6 cm, therefore you will need about 1 m3 of gravel/chippings per 20 m2. Rake the gravel/chippings well to make sure all grids are filled up completely. Make sure you have some left to finish it off later, as the gravel will always be compacted a little while driving on it.Important: Driving on the grids unfilled is advised against.
